We're reading the two Williams in class this week, along with Mr. Coleridge. Blake is very familiar to me, but I'm definitely gaining a new respect for his political leanings. I had always looked at him in a more spiritual, eccentric genius sort of mindset, and I'm only just now realizing how much he was looking out for the less fortunate. Whether or not he did anything tangible, I think the amount that it pervades his poetry is commendable.
Wordsworth, on the other hand, is hard for me to read. I can appreciate his shorter pieces, but "Michael" was a struggle. I don't know if it's just not interesting to me, or that I'm automatically turned off any time there are Biblical overtones, but I won't be coming back to that one very much later on.
Coleridge, of course, is a dirty old bugger, and thus very close to my heart.
